12. Hanuman Swallows the Sun
Once upon a time, in a beautiful forest filled with adventure, there was a young and curious boy named Hanuman. He had a heart full of wonder and an insatiable hunger for knowledge—and for food!
One bright morning, as Hanuman was playing in the sky, something caught his eye. Up above, he saw a glowing, golden ball—shining as bright as the biggest fruit he had ever imagined. “What a delicious-looking fruit!” he thought. His stomach growled, and without thinking, Hanuman leaped into the sky with incredible speed, reaching the shining ball in no time.
With one quick gulp, Hanuman swallowed the Sun! Suddenly, the world was plunged into complete darkness! The birds stopped flying, the trees went still, and everyone looked around, confused. “Where did the sunlight go?” they wondered.
The gods in the heavens saw what had happened and were horrified. They quickly realized that Hanuman had eaten the Sun. They called out to him, “Hanuman, please release the Sun! The whole world depends on it!”
But Hanuman, not fully understanding the problem, smiled and said, “What a tasty treat this is!” He wasn’t aware of the trouble he had caused.
The gods, worried that the world would stay in darkness forever, called upon Lord Indra, the king of the gods, to act. Indra took out his mighty thunderbolt, the Vajra, and struck Hanuman’s chest. Hanuman tumbled back to earth, but to his surprise, he didn’t feel pain. Instead, he was puzzled about what was happening.
Meanwhile, Hanuman’s father, Lord Vayu, the god of the wind, grew angry. To show his frustration, he withdrew all the air from the world. People couldn’t breathe, and everything became silent and still. The gods knew they had to act fast to restore balance.
To calm Lord Vayu and fix the chaos, the gods granted Hanuman three amazing gifts: immense strength, great wisdom, and the blessing of immortality—meaning he would never die. Hanuman, realizing the power he had been given, was overjoyed! He hadn’t meant to cause trouble, but his curiosity and mischief had led to great blessings.
From that day on, Hanuman promised to use his strength and wisdom to help others—and to be more careful about what he swallowed!
